Tools and gardening guidance provided free- you can even choose to have your own plot!
It is a 1/4 acre well fenced flat section that the the South Coast Environment Society purchased in 1997 for use by environmental groups in Western Southland.

Improvements so far include a shade house, tool shed and potting shed. A central hexagonal seating area doubles as a raised garden.

We have been grateful for donations of various plants from individuals. The Southland branch of the Men of the Trees have donated several fruit and nut trees. Aparima Nursery Enterprise has donated a selection of native trees.

It was originally envisaged that this would be a garden mainly for vegetable growing but over time this was hard to sustain, due to the main grass on the land being couch! Keen volunteers are now setting up as a bio-regional example of a diverse permaculture food forest with a selection of vegetables included. The Aparima Nursery uses the shade house for storage and distribution of native plants.

If you would like to donate plants or time to this project please leave your contact details at the Environment Centre

We also a regular Saturday working bee depending on when the weather is good- ring the Centre and leave your contact details and we can get in touch with you when these are held. There are also raised gardens available to anyone who would like to grow veges for themselves.
